Goof Off Day

I goofed off today. A friend and I can seldom get together because of our schedules, so we set aside today a long time ago and held it religiously free so we could play together. Spent the day driving along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, visiting towns that have been there since the Civil War, admiring Victorian mansions, riding ferries, antiquing, and enjoying the fall colors.

I really, really miss writing American historicals. The amount of material just lying around, dying to be written about, is amazing. Guess no one wants to read about log cabins and barn dances, but the era after the Civil War was very civilized. Don't know why American history has fallen out of favor. Anyone got a clue?

Pouring Blood on the Keyboard

Still gutting the historical. Kind of interesting to see how much can be cut out and still leave the pillars standing, rather like watching one of those home improvement shows where they start knocking out walls and wondering which ones are "support" walls. I build pretty darned strong supports, but taking one out and building new ones around it is a tricky task. A challenge to my skills, right?

Anyone reading anything interesting lately? I just finished Kristan Higgins CATCH OF THE DAY and enjoyed it immensely. Women's fiction with romance, although it's labeled romance. It's a "slice of life" book that we don't see much of anymore. The characterization was terrific.

Another Day, Another Proposal

Spent the morning re-writing the historical plot, cutting all the scenes that made me weep with sorrow or laugh with joy, slitting my wrists, you know, the usual.

This afternoon, my editor requested an e-version of an old contemp proposal. When I hunted it down to send to her, I discovered my busy little bee brain had edited and revised it so many times, there wasn't any ONE proposal to send. Sometimes, ADHD ain't pretty! So I had to hastily work through comparing a couple of versions until I had what I wanted, while praying the utility truck sitting outside my window did not cut out my broadband before I could send it.

And off it went, hopefully to the right place. Does this mean mercury retrograde may be winding down? The truck is gone and I still have my internet!!!!

AMNESIA AND ANGST

Finally had a loooooong conversation with editor today. We have agreed we're on the same page with the characters and emotional trajectories, but amnesia is still out. My theory is that someone else has already turned in a book with an amnesia story and (a) it didn't work or (b) they don't want two books coming out with it. So I'm supposed to substitute angst for amnesia. Welcome to my world! Now I need only rewrite the entire plot. Or rethink writing career.

To make myself feel better, I read through my paranormal contemp and decided it was quite good. So I wrote another chapter. I'm feeling much better now, thank you.

Here's a cheerleader to cheer everyone else on....

And the Beat Goes On...

No idea why that song popped into my mind. Nothing seems to be going on. Retrograde to the max. Still reworking historical scenes until sick to death of them. Went back to one of the contemps and started beating it to death. I need to write something new!!!!!

The really sorry part is that I keep finding mistakes even after I've worked these openings a dozen times. If I'd quit changing things, these mistakes wouldn't happen!

Little or nothing accomplished again today...
